- Use "intelligent pallets" during the shipping and delivery of items, to speed up the registration/decommisioning and to reduce mistakes
- Introduce "smart shelves" to keep track of the products displayed
- Enable efficient stocktaking by using handheld readers
- Use automatic checkout facilities
